flying into marshall

Wednesday, after repacking and getting everything situated it was time to head to the airport.  Stella was at the kennel and we swung by to pick her up on the way.

I checked two duffels and carried on my sewing machine and backpack.  Don't worry, she wasn't in the kennel yet.

The Ravn gate was full of the district's new teachers.  This twin prop took us from Anchorage.

The view along the way was incredible.

When the mountains stopped and the tundra began we came to Bethel.  This is our local hub and all the flights between Marshall and Anchorage fly through here.

In Bethel, we strapped into this nine-seater plane.  Smiling is my housemate Liz.

It was incredible to be so close to the earth as we were flying.  This was all part of the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge.

The flights was a lot like a roller coaster or hilly back road.  Every once in a while my stomach would jump into my throat.  But the Bush pilots fly to multiple villages and are very skilled.  The skies were clear and we were in skilled hands.

We landed on the gravel landing strip and after a few minutes Nick, the school custodian, and Debbie, his wife and the school secretary, came to fetch us in the school vehicles.

After a bit we went over to the school library to collect all the boxes and packages that we had sent in advance.  Between Liz and myself we had a truck load.  We both had six totes, multiple priority boxes and I had a slew of Amazon shipments.  It took multiple dolly trips and lots of lifting.  By the end, we were pretty worn out.

I managed to get all the boxes unpacked before the day was through.  It helped that it was light until well after midnight.  It certainly was one jam-packed Wednesday.

  1. I do not know how you got all of that unpacked before the end of the day after all that traveling. I would have been dead on the floor. Those views from the plane are incredibly beautiful. What an adventure so far!
