a second adventure in blueberry picking

Berry picking is top on the to do list of most of the village.  Many of the quads that drive out of the village are on their way out to the tundra to pick.  The ladies and I were lucky enough to be invited to berry pick with our school secretary, Debbie, and her daughters.  They were picking to make agutak for a birthday party the next day.  We found out from Debbie's nephew the next day that she make really good agutak.

The berries are very small and grow close to the ground.  It takes a little practice to train the eye to find them.

The flat green leaves are blueberry leaves.

There are berries all over the tundra.

This is a good little bunch of berries.

In lieu of berry buckets I used a ziplock container...thanks Rach!
It took about two hours to pick about three cups of berries.  This is a bit of a contrast from the Indiana standard where a couple of hours of picking in the patch would yield many pounds of berries.

I washed, dried and froze the berries for winter baking.
