Viv & Liz Visit

The month of June brought a most welcome visitor.  My dear friend (and former roommate) Lizzie and her daughter Vivian came for their summer visit to stay with her folks the next town over.  What a treat it was just have have weeks to spend afternoons together either on an outing or just hanging out!

We had to make quite a few trips to the Goshen Farmers Market - making full use of the summer Tuesday hours.

We also got to wander around our favorite spots in Goshen.  Generally, our adventures consist of some vintage wares, anything handmade, a spice of ethnic, good fresh food, and the outdoors.

In the middle of the visit Clint came for a stretch.  It was fun to share a farmers market visit with Mr. Ross.  He is a filmmaker and fellow SCAD alum.  I can't say we have ever run out of subjects to talk about.

One afternoon I joined the ladies of the family in a little shopping around Nappanee.  It is so sweet to see Lizzie and Jess with their little girls.

The girls love seeing one another and it is probably even more fun to watch them with one another.  Girl cousins rock!

Lizzard and I were lucky enough to get to squeeze in some stitching related outings.  She has a beautiful heirloom quilt in need of some attention and that was our big project.  We visited Calico Point one day.

Vivian enjoyed the cart most of all I think.  She is sure on her feet so pushing things is pretty fun.

Lizzard was working to mend an eight pointed star medallion quilt.  It was very worn and full of beautiful vintage feed sack fabrics.  To add stability for its new life as a wall-hanging, we layered in a new batting and backing.  Lizzie set out to add more hand stitching to her great-grandmother's white threads.

A few of the diamonds in the star pattern are very, very worn so we figured out a good way to mend those.  Lizzie took to hand-quilting right away and had a good amount of it stitched in no time.

I spend last evening blowing bubbles and bouncing a red kick ball on the back deck with three generations of this wonderful family.  I'd have to say one of the next best things to watching my dear friend as a mother is seeing her parents are grandparents.

And those grandparents are always good at making their grandbaby (and me) laugh.

There is nothing quite like spending time with a dear friend.  Thank you Lizzard for your listening ear and patience.  You are such a treasure and seeing you as a mother has only brought more respect and admiration into my heart for you.  You are such an encouragement and your daughter has such a beautiful soul.

  1. Oh Sharon, this is such a wonderfully beautiful post! You captured our time together so well! I think of you whenever I work on or look at the quilt, and I'll always treasure this 5-week-long trip. It'll keep me going till the next time we get to see each other :)
