day tripping

Today, Mom, Dad, Zachary, Lewis and I drove down to West Lafayette to Purdue University.  The drive is about 2.5 hours through great winding roads.

They are not so great in the winter but today just happened to be gorgeous.  Actually, they are also quite beautiful in the winter as well, but mostly because Dad drives.

Along the way their are also many fields and farms as well as an extraordinary amount of great barns.

Black barns are generally typical of the South where tobacco would be hanged and dried inside, so I was a bit surprised to see one in Indiana.  I don't think this one is being used as a utilitarian barn any longer.

This bright yellow barn was huge.  Also not a typical barn color.

I'm not sure whether this was actually a barn or not, but photogenic all the same.

This barn is in homage to a '31 Farmall Tractor.  Very inventive use of a roof.

And lastly, the winner of the drive.  There are no words.

Big bro Jason is a Purdue Alum and brothers Samuel and Josiah are on their way to joining that club too.  Sam is an Industrial Design major and RA down at 'ol PU and he will graduate this coming spring.  Josiah has yet to define his major and contemplating Visual Arts or Performing Arts.  His testing of the Performing Arts waters lead him to part in the play The Matchmaker.  Naturally, the whole family had to go see his wonderful performance as the "snooty French Waiter".

Dad made fresh bread yesterday which we took with us today to make great sub sandwiches for lunch.  Mom also made a wonderful chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.  After the performance we had just enough time to sneak in that family photo we were meaning to take for the past three months.

A great photo.
A great day.
