run run run
It's Tuesday...that means Cross Country Night!
Brother, Lewis, is a Cross Country runner at his high school. He joined the team a few years back and now is a senior. Going to his meets is the best.
Girls always run first so my family's perpetual tardiness is acceptable. Then they run a few miles and the event is over.

Lewis is on the far left (with the faux bald spot). The team is saying their pre-run prayer...that is why he and his buddies are all so super friendly (example: holding hands).
Today's course took him through the woods twice. Many of the courses have a partially wooded trek. This is where we cheer for him.
Some parents run around the course cheering for their kid from as many locations as possible...my family likes to be supportive but not helicopter, so we just wait for him to come around again.
In the mean time we have the opportunity to take goofy photos, practice learning the names of all the other team members as they pass by (usually we just wait until someone else yells their name first), and chat with other team members' parents (I'm not a parent but still chat).
Then we head to the home stretch to give the loudest, bestest last big cheer as he fires the big guns across the finish line.
After we give him a few minutes we go tell him how proud we (we being me, mom, dad, j, and sometimes zachary) are of his running skills. He stands there with his head down and works on his breathing skills and motions for water.
Today he had his personal best time.
Cross Country meets are the best!
Like a really cool person I wore my TOMS and white ankle socks. Hey, my ankles are still scabby from wearing wedding shoes.
I'll give a post on the weekend festivities later.
