OH, TO THE WOOL.

I was having a convo with my dear Maggy and was just starting to tell her about my experiences and knowledge gained at an amazing wool weaving factory we visited today. I decided it would be a good thing to share this new found knowledge with everyone. Seriously the hottest thing is feeling all of those amazingly soft and luxurious fabrics. Okay, so this is what hot textile man was telling us - something I've heard before but still love. Mirco fibers and fleece (synthetics) don't allow your skin to breath and trap humidity causing you to sweat and letting bacteria and fungus develop (yuck). Should you be in below freezing environment this would cause you to be sweaty and you could freeze to death (if you shave an alpaca and put a polar fleece on it it would not survive the night) But wool regulates that so your skin can breath and you stay comfortable instead of rash ridden. It is naturally anti-microbial and very easy to care for. Where fleece and micro-fibers are made from oil byproducts, wool is from animals and takes a lot less resources and environmental impact to create. Fleece has to be boiled to clean it and absorbs oils, wool doesn't need that kind of care and should not be boiled (less energy consumed). Usually some sun and wind will air out and clean the wool enough because it doesn't absorb oils and such. A good wool blanket should last for 40 years - sustainability. Now you have the infinite wisdom that was imparted onto me by the amazing heir of Brun Textile.
