in progress...

Finally, after two years of thinking about it, I have started my Indiana quilt.

The strange looking contraption is a leather thimble.  If you are ever going quilt or sew heavy material by hand I would HIGHLY recommend picking on up.  Your fingers will think you.

I've had the top pieced for about a year.  Yep.  Sitting there waiting to be quilted.

Instead of pinning the three layers together I decided to baste it.  This is very nice as well.

  I'm hand stitching.

The two brown panels are walnut dyed (from my back yard).  The front is composed of old feed sacks I bought from Bob and Dorothy Getz.  The center is pieced together (scrap) batting, and the backing is a linen table cloth I purchased at Helen Marker's sale.  Helen is the late grandmother of my friend Amy (of the Arctic).  The road I have based this piece on is Peirce Road.  Also known as the road I live on (but as it's called in another county).  Every time I leave or come back home this is the road that takes me to the main highways.  It is one of my favorites.  I intend for this to be my third in my places series: one being the Paris stones and the other Savannah bricks.  It will be titled "Pillar of Madison Township".  I am hoping to have it finished to enter it in a local show at the end of September.
